How to Do Immersion at Home
Immersion is a transformative spiritual practice not limited to a particular location, setting, or ministry. You can participate in immersion right from home. You only need enough water to submerge your head (such as a personal pool or bathtub) and a heart ready to receive God’s revelation. Immersion at home can be an intimate experience with the Holy Spirit and just as powerful as corporate immersion.
Why Do We Immerse?
Immersion is woven deeply into Hebraic culture, all the way back to creation in Genesis.
Genesis 1:2 says,
“The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”
Before the earth was formed and filled with life, it was immersed in water. At the start of creation, there was an immersion. The pattern continues throughout the Bible, and the act of immersing is incorporated into many feast days.
Immersion is an act of realigning and renewing our hearts and minds in Jesus, restoring the inheritance and authority we have in Him. It is a symbol of the “circumcision of the heart” Paul speaks of in Colossians 2:11-12.
- “In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.” (emphasis added)
Immersion is about burying the old, breaking agreement with the enemy, and rising in a fuller expression of your identity in Jesus. It brings renewed revelation and vision for your Kingdom assignment. It’s a declaration that Jesus has disarmed, triumphed over, and made a public spectacle of every wicked principality that has oppressed you (Colossians 2:15).
We immerse to bury generational iniquitous structures and values. We rise again to fully embrace our true identity in Jesus, reinstated in our Kingdom purpose.
Notice how this is similar to but not the same as traditional baptism. Baptism is specifically connected to celebrating salvation and happens once. Immersion is about rededicating and renewing your relationship with Yeshua. It’s about cleansing and new beginnings and can happen many times throughout the year.
Support for Immersion at Home | What to Include
Besides having a receptive heart and a place to submerge yourself in water, there is no right or wrong way to immerse. It’s not a formulaic process, but there are beautiful tools that the Holy Spirit may prompt you to include.
Anointing Oil—Anointing yourself with oil is a powerful way to reinforce breaking agreements with the enemy and coming into deeper alignment with God. Anointing yourself with oil symbolizes breaking the enemy’s yoke. Isaiah 27:10 says, “The yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.” You can anoint the back of your neck, eyes, ears, mouth, forehead, or however God leads before or after immersion.
Tallit–You may notice Rabbi Curt and Christie Landry wearing a tallit during immersion. The tallit is a beautiful symbol of coming under God’s wings of refuge. It’s a place of connection and communion. Going under the water covered in a tallit represents being under God’s covering and authority.
Shofar– The shofar is a powerful weapon of war and an instrument of worship. It’s a battle cry for breakthrough, used in ancient Israel and still today. It’s a mighty sound that makes the dominion of darkness tremble, declaring God’s victory and authority. You can blow the shofar before and after immersing, sealing in the spirit the great work Yeshua has done.
We encourage you also to have your Bible open before you, to declare scripture, and to find specific references as the Holy Spirit leads. Play some of your favorite worship music in the background, fostering an atmosphere of shalom and praise.
Decree and Declare His Promises
Immersion is about breaking agreement with the enemy, repenting, and coming into agreement with God and His Word to you. If you are immersing at home during a feast with us, as you get into the water, decree and declare the word God has given for the season. Declare what He’s spoken to your heart personally.
If you feel called to immerse at a different time of year, declare what God has revealed to you and the deliverance He’s promised you.
Any time you immerse, declare aloud the freedom you have in Yeshua from all iniquitous structures and curses. Declare that He has disarmed them, triumphed over them, and made a public spectacle of them on the cross (Colossians 2:15).
What specific stronghold(s) do you need freedom from? Ask Jesus to expose them. Be still and pray in the Spirit. He may reveal issues regarding…
- Generational curses
- Soul ties
- Fear of man
- Nightmares
- Fear and anxiety
- Spirit of anger
- Spirit of rejection
- Orphan spirit
Prepare to leave it all behind, burying it in the water. Declare the power of Jesus and His resurrection over every wicked principality that has oppressed you. In Yeshua’s mighty name, it has been disarmed!
The enemy’s assignment has been canceled! Jesus made a public spectacle of the spirits of fear, anxiety, anger, and rejection that have tormented you. Declare it, believe it, agree with it, and receive a deeper encounter with Him as you begin to immerse.

Rising into New Life
After you’ve decreed and declared God’s Word as the Holy Spirit leads, immerse in the water. When you come up, take a moment to rest in the presence of Jesus. Continue to pray and worship as you feel led. Immersion is meant to be a powerful prayer experience in the presence of the One who ransomed your life to bring you into abundant life with Him.
Whether you are joining us online for a feast, or immersing as you feel called, we pray this rich practice brings breakthrough, alignment, and Holy Spirit-empowerment into your life and home.
