How to Overcome the Spirit of Haman | Decrees of Divine Reversal and Recovery
The story of Purim is timeless and reveals principles and strategies for our day. As the Bride of Messiah, we must identify the demonic principalities that oppose us, expose them, and send them to judgment by the power of the Holy Spirit. One such principality is the spirit of Haman.
Throughout history and in recent events, this spirit has manifested in horrific acts of violence and propaganda against the people of Israel.
It seeks to rob and plunder the Body of Messiah’s spiritual inheritance, peace, and Kingdom authority. It positions itself through intimidation and deception. But just as the man Haman was brought to judgment in a divine turnaround, the spirit of Haman will meet the same end.
Now is the hour to rise like Esthers and Mordecais, confront the spirit of Haman with Kingdom authority, and experience divine reversal and recovery in our families, cities, and nations.
What Is the Spirit of Haman?
The spirit of Haman is an Amalekite spirit. It operates through robbery, fear, deception, and antisemitism.
Robbery
Haman was an Agagite, a descendant of the Amalekites, one of Israel’s most ancient enemies. Amalekite means “plunderer, blood licker,” and likewise, this spirit embodies Satan’s desire to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). Throughout the Bible, the Amalekites raided, plundered, and stole from Israel.
In 1 Samuel 15, King Saul was commanded to destroy the Amalekites completely. But caving to the fear of man, he chose to spare the life of the Amalekite king, Agag. This disobedience cost him his crown, and through Agag, this principality endures and continues to oppress Israel and all those grafted into her, even to this day, through a spirit of robbery.
Fear and Deception
In the book of Esther, Haman uses fear and deception to persuade the king to decree destruction on the Jewish people (Esther 3:8-9). He attempts this horrific massacre because he was defied by Mordecai, who would not cower to the fear of man.
When Haman rose to second in command in Persia, all in the king’s house were instructed to bow down to him. All bowed except Mordecai (Esther 3:2). He refuses to bend his knee to the Amalekite spirit, and Haman is furious.
- “When Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow or pay him homage, Haman was filled with wrath. But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone, for they had told him of the people of Mordecai. Instead, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews who were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus—the people of Mordecai.” –Esther 3:5-6 (emphasis added)
When the spirit of Haman is defied, it will rage and begin to expose how truly wicked and self-glorifying it is. It seeks to kill and destroy whatever threatens its perceived path to supremacy.
An Ancient Hatred
By God’s divine purpose, the people of Israel have been vessels of Satan’s downfall–defying his dominion by their very existence. The land of Israel belongs to the God of Israel. The story of Israel is His story. King Jesus, the Lion of Judah, will rule and reign from Jerusalem with full dominion and glory, and Satan hates the nearing of this day.
This is the root of antisemitism, and the spirit of Haman is fueled by it–consistently seeking to destroy and delegitimize the Jewish people and all those grafted into Israel because of his hatred for the one true God.
Characteristics and Manifestations
Haman, Hitler, Hamas–the same demonic principality and wicked intention is behind each of them. The war is spiritual before it’s physical.
In the Body of Messiah, the spirit of Haman seeks to rob us of our spiritual heritage, disconnecting us from our Jewish roots and the fullness of God. It attacks our true identity as One New Man through deception, complacency, and a lack of understanding of our history and heritage.
Studies on the names of Haman’s 10 sons reveal more characteristics of this demonic principality and how it operates. When seeking to identify it, look for these patterns–
- Blindness due to a religious spirit
- Pride and arrogance
- Witchcraft
- Perversion rooted in Jezebel
- Political spirit of division
- Spirit of prejudice and injustice
- Victim mentality
- Spirit of slumber
- Mob mentality
- Spirits of accusation
- Spirits of confusion

How to Defeat It | Refusing Silence Through Warring Decrees
The spirit of Haman thrives when the righteous are silent. It works under cover of deception and cannot be defeated until it is exposed. It makes murderous decrees in the spirit (that can manifest in the physical), manipulating the power of the written word to enforce its will.
As second in command, Haman bore the king’s signet ring and had authority to author decrees:
- Then the king’s scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and a decree was written according to all that Haman commanded….And the letters were sent by couriers into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, little children and women… A copy of the document was to be issued as law in every province, being published for all people, that they should be ready for that day. –Esther 3:12-14 (emphasis added)
In Persia, decrees signed by the king were irreversible. At first glance, this grievous decree seems unchallengeable. This is another tactic of the spirit of Haman–manipulating laws to such a degree, working the system in such a way, that fighting against it seems futile.
But Mordecai refuses to accept this decree as final. He knows his secretly Jewish cousin has risen to royalty and been divinely positioned for such a time as this. Mordecai battles in the opposite spirit, writing a letter to Queen Esther with words that serve as a prophetic warning and inspiration for all of God’s people:
- “… ‘Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king’s palace any more than all the other Jews. For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?’” —Esther 4:13-14 (emphasis added)
When facing the spirit of Haman, remaining silent comes at a cost. Like Esther, when Haman’s assignment has been revealed to us, we must walk in alignment with the Holy Spirit to expose and defeat it.
We have not been given a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We are clothed in Yeshua’s robes of righteousness and are covered in His favor and protection as we walk in obedience.
Be open to divine appointments and opportunities to speak up and stand for truth. You are not alone; the Holy Spirit is within you and will inspire your words. “…for it will not be you speaking but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” (Matthew 10:20)
True Identity and Transfer of Authority
When Esther uses her voice to expose Haman, justice comes quickly. She reveals her true identity, and in a moment of divine reversal, Haman is hung on the gallows he created for Mordecai.
- “Then Queen Esther answered and said, “… we have been sold, my people and I, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated….So King Ahasuerus answered and said to Queen Esther, “Who is he, and where is he, who would dare presume in his heart to do such a thing? And Esther said, “The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman!” So Haman was terrified before the king and queen.” –Esther 7:3-6 (emphasis added)
- “Now Harbonah, one of the eunuchs, said to the king, “Look! The gallows, fifty cubits high, which Haman made for Mordecai, who spoke good on the king’s behalf, is standing at the house of Haman.” Then the king said, “Hang him on it!” So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath subsided.” –Esther 7:9-10 (emphasis added)
Not only is Haman hung, but his position and authority are transferred to the very man who defied him. Mordecai receives the king’s signet ring and is promoted to second in command in the kingdom.
- “…the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai; and Esther appointed Mordecai over the house of Haman.” –Esther 8:2 (emphasis added)
Together, Esther and Mordecai issue another decree allowing their people to arm and defend themselves, and on the very day intended for destruction, the Jewish people overpowered all who hated them (Esther 9:1).
The spirit of Haman is hung, and his assignment is canceled, when we embrace our true identity, speak up, refuse to hide, and write another decree in full authority with the Spirit of God.
- “Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and Mordecai…you yourselves write a decree…and it was written, according to all that Mordecai commanded…A copy of the document was to be issued as a decree in every province and published for all people, so that the Jews would be ready on that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.” –Esther 8:8,9 &13 (emphasis added)
- Then Queen Esther, the daughter of Abihail, with Mordecai the Jew, wrote with full authority… –Esther 9:29 (emphasis added)
In the Courts of Heaven, we must declare that the spirit of Haman’s authority has been revoked. The king’s signet ring has been removed from his finger. This spirit will hang on the very gallows it built for the people of God in a moment of divine reversal.
It is time for the Body of Messiah to reclaim our rightful Kingdom position through Yeshua’s blood covering, writing with full authority decrees of divine reversal and recovery.
The spirit of Haman is overcome as we…
- Come out of hiding
- Embrace our true identity
- Refuse silence and speak the truth
- Battle in the opposite spirit
- Take back our Kingdom authority
- Write decrees in alignment with the Spirit of God
Decreeing the Turnaround
Seek the Holy Spirit for the words inspired by His Word that He wants you to speak. Join us in decreeing spiritual alignment and restoration in our homes, churches, communities, and Israel!
One New Man Revival in the Church
“We decree, through the power of the Holy Spirit and God’s Holy Word, that the spirit of Haman’s influence in the church will be exposed in Jesus’ Name! We pray for humility and repentance in the hearts of believers, a sensitivity to realize what they have been missing, and a hunger for more of the one true God, the God of Israel.
“We speak the power of One New Man revival–Jewish people being completed in Jesus Messiah and Gentile Believers being completed in their Jewish heritage. We pray for an increase in love for Israel and for blind eyes to be opened. The spirit of Haman’s assignment to steal, kill, and destroy in the church will not stand! We decree divine reversal and recovery in accordance with Yeshua’s will and desire for His people.”
Deliverance and Salvation for Israel
“We decree in Yeshua’s Holy Name deliverance and salvation for the people of Israel. We decree the Jewish people will have victory over all who hate them, and they will receive abundant restoration for all that’s been stolen from them. We decree God will make their righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of their cause like the noonday sun. We declare that the spirit of Haman, the Amalekite spirit, will be exposed and become Yeshua’s footstool!
“We decree freedom for the spiritual and physical captives and that every evil ploy of Israel’s enemies will come back on their own heads. Haman will be hung on the gallows built for Mordecai! We decree revelation of salvation through dreams, visions, and appointed conversations for Jewish people in Israel and around the world, for their willingness to come under Yeshua’s wings for refuge. May Messianic Believers rise in authority and leadership, filled with prophetic anointing through the Holy Spirit in this hour.”
Restoration for Our Homes and Communities
“We decree in our homes and communities the restoration of all that has been stolen by the spirit of Haman. Relationships, assignments, health, property, spiritual inheritance, and understanding will be restored sevenfold!
“We cancel the spirit of Haman’s assignment over our families to divide, deceive, confuse, and instead declare life, truth, and clarity over our home atmosphere through the presence of the Holy Spirit. We decree Holy Spirit-inspired dreams and visions for families to walk in Kingdom assignment together, with unity, truth, and power.”
Speak, Write, Stand For “Such a Time as This”
All authority in Heaven and on earth belongs to Jesus. He alone is central and supreme and receives all glory (Matthew 28:18, Colossians 1:15-20). The spirit of Haman, among every demonic principality, will become His footstool (Psalm 110:1). This spirit rages on the earth because it knows its time is short.
God hears the cries of the robbed, your cry for your family and your city, and the cries of the people of Israel, their grief, and their war for existence. He is rising to judge all evil and to rescue all who choose refuge in Him.
Partner with Him at this hour, like Esther and Mordecai. Do not be silent. Do not hide. Embrace your true identity. Step into your Kingdom authority. Write warring decrees, nullifying the spirit of Haman’s assignment. May you walk into rooms and divine appointments with courage, knowing you never walk alone.
May the Holy Spirit inspire your words, strengthen your heart, and restore to you what was stolen as you intercede for the restoration of others and see divine turnaround, reversal, and recovery. May you walk in love and boldness, knowing you were created and positioned for such a time as this.
