What Are the Results of the Israeli Election? Here’s What We Know…

The results of the Israeli election as to who has won the prime minister seat have yet to be announced. However, results so far are showing that Netanyahu’s Likud Party may have narrowly lost to Gantz’ Blue and White Party.

Shalom Lipner, a former Israeli official who served in the Prime Minister’s Office, tweeted today… “He’s down, but not out. He’s smarting over hemorrhaging votes, but his consolation is they didn’t give an obvious majority to his competitors.”

Why Is There a Second Election in Israel?

After the April elections, the Likud Party—led by Netanyahu—was not successful at gathering a majority. This resulted in the second election taking place now, 5 months after the first election.

What Does This Mean for the Results of the Israeli Election?

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu (Israel Is Our Home), is the “swing” vote, so to speak. However, as of now, he has spoken in favor of implementing a national unity government versus standing solely with Netanyahu or Gantz.

Lieberman wrote on his Facebook page, “If [Blue and White leader Benny] Gantz and [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu do not come out with a declaration that this is their intention they shouldn’t bother to call me at all.” [i]

A couple of possible outcomes with explanations…

1. Possible Results of the Israeli Election | A “National Unity” Government Could Be Formed

One possible outcome of the Israeli election is that Netanyahu and Gantz could decide to make a deal and form a “national unity” government.

We must consider that this could mean Netanyahu would have to rotate his time in power with Gantz. A large hiccup in this plan is that Gantz has vowed not to sit in a government with Netanyahu—an important reminder to all of us to “watch our vows closely.”

2. Possible Results of the Israeli Election | Likud Party Could Replace Netanyahu

If a national unity government is put in place, the Likud Party, currently headed by Prime Minister Netanyahu, could possibly replace him with another leader.

To Wrap Up the Possible Results to the Israeli Election…

In short, neither Netanyahu nor Gantz appear to have enough seats to win a majority parliament.

During this time of uncertainty, it is unclear as to the results of the Israeli election. Israeli President Reuven Rivlin is helping lead Israel by meeting with Israel’s leaders to either attempt to convince Gantz and Netanyahu to come together in a unity coalition or select the best qualified candidate to try to form a coalition of at least 61 Knesset seats within the next 6 weeks—61 being the majority of 120 available seats.

At the end of the day, the future of Israel’s government now depends on negotiations among Gantz, Netanyahu, the Likud Party, and Lieberman.

Who Knows the Results of the Israeli Election?

Outside of the Lord, no one actually knows the results of the Israeli election. We also don’t know if a national unity government is workable at this time (although Israel has previously had this type of government, prior to the Six-Day War, in 1984, and in 2009).

There are other possible outcomes as well, although the numbers make it a challenge for either a unified right (Likud) or center-left (Blue-and White) bloc to hold power.

Although to us, everything is up in the air, we know that the Lord has Israel’s destiny written in the books of Heaven.

What Can We Do as the Body of the Messiah?

Pray for and Seek the Peace of Jerusalem

  • Pray and seek for Jerusalem’s peace, for all who love her will prosper! O Jerusalem, may there be peace for those who dwell inside your walls and prosperity in your every palace. I intercede for the sake of my family and friends who dwell there, that they may all live in peace. For the sake of your house, Yahweh I will seek the welfare and prosperity of Jerusalem.” —Psalm 122:6-9

Pray for Israeli’s Political Leaders

  • “And pray for every political leader and representative, so that we would be able to live tranquil, undisturbed lives, as we worship the awe-inspiring God with pure hearts. It is pleasing to our Savior-God to pray for them.”—1 Timothy 2:2-3 (TPT)

Be Persistent in Prayer

Remain stationed as an intercessor and a watchman, reminding the Lord of His promises concerning Jerusalem and all of Israel.

  • Jerusalem, I have stationed intercessors on your walls who will never be silent, day or night. You ‘reminders’of Yahweh, take no rest…”—Isaiah 62:6 (TPT)

Pray in Unity for Israel

And finally, a prayer that Curt Landry Ministries has lifted up for our supporters so many times, let us pray Psalm 20 on behalf of Israel’s government—may that which is written in God’s books come to pass in this season:

May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble; may the name of the God of Jacob defend you; may He send you help from the sanctuary, and strengthen you out of Zion; may He remember all your offerings, and accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah

“May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your purpose. We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.

“Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand.

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. They have bowed down and fallen; but we have risen and stand upright. Save, Lord! May the King answer us when we call.”
