Prayers Against Witchcraft

What if the greatest spiritual attacks against your life don’t look dark, dramatic, or obvious? What if witchcraft isn’t always candles and chanting, but also words whispered in anger, curses spoken in bitterness, or confusion that seems to settle over your mind without warning?

Some in the Church today dismiss witchcraft as superstition, something ancient, primitive, or irrelevant. Others see it everywhere. 

Scripture paints a serious picture: the Bible calls witchcraft detestable to God, a counterfeit spirituality, a rebellion that seeks power apart from Him. 

It is not harmless. It is not neutral. And it is not fictional.

So then, the deeper question is: What if some of the exhaustion you can’t explain, the tension that won’t lift, the repeated family cycles, the sudden waves of confusion or frustration aren’t random at all but an assignment from the enemy to steal your peace, confuse your mind, and create bondage?

The Enemy’s Tactic

The enemy’s tactics regarding witchcraft are for you to either obsess over or completely ignore it. Either extreme works in his favor. What he doesn’t want is a Believer who recognizes his schemes and stands in spiritual authority.

What Is Witchcraft?

Witchcraft is a spiritual attack and assignment from the enemy that operates through:

• Negative words spoken over your life
• Curses, hexes, or vexes
• Confusion planted in your mind
• Emotional and physical oppression
• Generational patterns of bondage

It can be subtle—not always obvious or stereotypical—but a spiritual force working behind the scenes to disrupt peace and distort truth.

At its core, witchcraft is Satan’s counterfeit spirituality—a false source of power that attempts to imitate true spiritual authority while drawing people away from God.

Witchcraft, according to Scripture, is a dangerous exchange: trading trust in God for counterfeit spiritual power. It is condemned from Genesis to Revelation and listed among the works of the flesh. 

Yet the Spirit of God deals with it when we submit to Him and operate under His authority. Acts 19:11-18 is an example of the counterfeit, the authority given to those who are in a relationship with Jesus, and the response of a repentant heart. 

The Good News

Here’s the good news. When you pray against witchcraft (the counterfeit power of the enemy): 

• Every counterfeit must bow to the Cross.
• Every curse is broken by the blood of Jesus.
• Every assignment of confusion collapses under truth.

What Does the Bible Say About Witchcraft?

The Bible consistently condemns witchcraft, sorcery, divination, and related practices (fortune-telling, necromancy, spell-casting) as:

Detestable to God

• Deuteronomy 18:9–12–“You shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who… practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer… For whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord.”
• 2 Kings 21:6–Manasseh practiced sorcery and divination and “did much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger.”

Acts of rebellion

• 1 Samuel 15:23–“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft…” Seeking power outside of God is spiritual insubordination.
• 1 Samuel 28–King Saul consults the medium of Endor after God stopped answering him, which was an act of disobedience and spiritual rebellion.
• 1 Chronicles 10:13–14–Saul’s death is directly connected to his unfaithfulness, including consulting a medium.

Associated with pagan nations

• Deuteronomy 18:9–14–Israel is warned not to imitate the occult practices of the nations they are driving out of the land. Occult practices are tied to false, pagan worship systems–a counterfeit. 
• Leviticus 20:23—“And you shall not walk in the statutes of the nation which I am casting out before you; for they commit all these things, and therefore I abhor them.”
• 2 Kings 17:17–Israel adopted pagan practices, including divination and sorcery, and fell under judgment as a result.

Attempts to seek power apart from God and from demonic sources

• Isaiah 8:19– “And when they say to you, ‘Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,’ should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living?”
• Galatians 5:19, 20, 21– “Now the words of the flesh are… idolatry, sorcery…those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
• 1 Corinthians 10:20– “Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons.”

Why Witchcraft Is a Problem

Witchcraft is dangerous because it:

• Throws confusion into your life
• Magnifies frustrations and unfair circumstances
• Attempts to manipulate through spoken negativity
• Robs you of peace
• Wears you down emotionally and physically
• Encourages doubt in God’s authority and protection
• Can manifest through generational patterns of destruction

And its assignment is: 

• Stealing peace
• Creating instability
• Causing emotional and physical oppression
• Repeating destructive family cycles

Its ultimate assignment is to pull someone away from trusting God fully.

Signs of Witchcraft 

Many signs go unnoticed. But here are a few physical, emotional, mental, and generational signs of spiritual bondage or generational curses that need to be broken.

Physical signs

• Random aches and pains (neck and shoulders especially)
• Dizziness
• Tightness in the chest
• Unexplained sickness
• Chronic exhaustion despite rest and healthy habits
• Sudden headaches, sleepiness, or yawning

Emotional and mental signs

• Heightened frustration
• Irritability
• Annoyance that feels magnified
• Feeling tense or emotionally “off”
• Confusion
• Persistent negativity

Generational signs

Repeated destructive patterns in families, such as:

• Poverty
• Sexual immorality
• Prison
• Violence
• Ongoing cycles of hardship

How to Break Free

Step 1: Pray Immediately

When symptoms or spiritual opposition arise:

• Begin praying right away.
• Ask God to release warring angels to dismantle the enemy’s assignment.
• Pray that curses and attacks are overthrown by the blood of Jesus.
• Stand on verses such as 2 Thessalonians 3:3 — “But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.”

Step 2: Grow in Knowledge and Discernment

• Study biblical teachings on spiritual warfare.
• Seek wisdom and understanding.
• Ask the Holy Spirit for discernment.
• Recognize and confront spiritual attacks.

Step 3: Declare God’s Word

• Speak Scripture daily over your life.
• Replace negative confessions with truth.
• Stand on God’s promises consistently.
• Surround yourself with Believers who speak life over you.

A Prayer Against Witchcraft

Heavenly Father,

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I come before You and lift up myself, my family, and our homes. I thank You that You are our refuge and fortress, our God in whom we trust. I declare that we dwell in the secret place of the Most High and abide under Your shadow.

I come to You, now, in Your Courts of Heaven as Righteous Judge. I choose to forgive anyone who is saying or doing anything that is causing witchcraft attacks against me, my family, my congregation, my home, etc. I release them to You. I cancel the power of their words and actions by the power and authority of the blood and name of Yeshua. 

I decree that all effects must leave NOW in Yeshua’s name. I loosen Your blessings in their place in Jesus’ name. 

I plead the blood of Jesus over our minds, bodies, spirits, and every corner of our homes. Let every work of witchcraft be exposed and destroyed by the fire of the Holy Spirit. I break and renounce every spirit of darkness, curse, spell, and form of witchcraft sent against us, in Yeshua’s name. I cancel every assignment of the enemy in Jesus’ name. I command every demonic force to flee now, for it is written: “Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).

Send forth Your angels to surround and protect us. Let Your light scatter the darkness. I declare that no weapon formed against us shall prosper and that we are more than conquerors through Jesus. Surround us with Your fire. Cleanse us from all spiritual contamination and restore our peace.

Thank You, Lord, for deliverance, protection, and victory. I praise and glorify You!

Decrees (speak out loud in faith):

1. I decree that no weapon formed against me, my family, or my home shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against us in judgment I shall condemn. (Isaiah 54:17)
2. I decree that we are covered by the blood of Jesus and hidden in Him, far from every work of witchcraft and darkness.
3. I decree divine protection over our minds, bodies, spirits, and every room and doorway of our home.
4. I decree that the fire of the Holy Spirit surrounds our home and consumes every work of darkness directed at us.
5. I decree confusion and failure upon every demonic assignment sent against me and my household.
6. I decree that the light of Yeshua exposes and dismantles every hidden work of the enemy.
7. I decree that I walk in the authority of Jesus to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. (Luke 10:19)
8. I decree that every plan of the wicked concerning me and my household is overturned and rendered powerless in Yeshua’s name.
9. I declare I am hidden under the shadow of the Almighty, and no harm will overtake us. (Psalm 91:1,10)
10.  I decree all witchcraft, word curses, and incantations spoken over our lives are null and void. (Numbers 23:23)
11.  I break all ungodly soul ties and renounce any spiritual agreements with darkness. (2 Corinthians 6:14-17)
12.  I release the fire of God to consume every work of witchcraft sent against us. (Hebrews 12:29)
13.  I declare that whoever the Son sets free is free indeed. We walk in liberty. (John 8:36)

Scriptures to meditate on and decree:

• “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord. — Isaiah 54:17
• “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” — Luke 10:19
• “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” — Psalm 91:1
• “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” — 2 Corinthians 10:4
• “Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered; let those also who hate Him flee before Him.” — Psalm 68:1

Stand in Your Authority

Witchcraft and every form of counterfeit spiritual power may exist, but it is no match for the authority of Jesus Christ. The enemy may attempt to intimidate, confuse, or oppress, but Believers do not stand powerless. Through prayer, discernment, and the Word of God, every scheme of darkness can be exposed and dismantled.

The key is not to fear, but to have faith. Not obsession, but authority. When you remain submitted to God, covered by the blood of Jesus, and grounded in His truth, every curse is broken, every lie is overturned, and every assignment of the enemy is rendered powerless.

Stand firm in the authority you have been given. Walk in the peace of God. And remember: the light of Jesus will always overcome the darkness.
