Speaking in Tongues… A Powerful Spiritual Weapon
In this pandemic moment, many of you are seeking spiritual protection, guidance, wisdom, and weaponry. You want assurance, confidence, and courage from the Lord.
There is a secret spiritual weapon the Lord has given you.
What do we mean by a spiritual weapon?
Ephesians 6:12-13 says,
- “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
With the coronavirus pandemic upon us, this “invisible enemy,” as our president refers to it, is being manifested right before our eyes. However, as a Believer in the Messiah, you have access to God’s armor.
We need to be wise and serpents and gentle as doves, preparing… but not panicking. We also need to understand how to play the offense—to move forward and take possession of the covenant promises the Lord has for us.
We’ve been given authority. We’ve been given gifts and wisdom to withstand the attacks of the enemy and advance the Kingdom.
Let us not forget to advance the Kingdom in this hour! People are seeking truth, peace, and protection. This is only found in the secret place of the Most High God.
To advance the Kingdom, we must understand the spiritual gifts and weaponry we have access to and the role they play in our assignment.
Let’s Talk about Spiritual Weaponry and Speaking in Tongues…

Speaking in Tongues | A Weapon in the Wilderness
Many in the Body of Christ have steered clear of the idea of speaking in tongues. However, in the midst of a pandemic, God is calling His children to seek His Spirit. He says, do not be afraid, but to talk with Him in a secret way in His secret place.
“For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.”—1 Corinthians 14:2
Pastor Todd Smith writes this about the purpose of praying in tongues in his book He Sent Him…
“The Good News Translation of the same verse (1 Corinthians 14:2) says, when we speak in tongues we are ‘speaking secret truths by the Spirit.’ Wow! Don’t miss the seriousness and depth of this. You and I have the supernatural ability to pray divine secrets unto the Lord. Literally, no one understands what I am praying, not even the devil. Here is the great news: God gives this ability to ‘pray in tongues’ to every believer that experiences the baptism of the Holy Spirit.” (pageS 100-101)
Pastor Smith further explains the purpose of speaking in tongues from 1 Corinthians 14:4…
- “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.”
The Bible says that speaking in tongues edifies, encourages, and enlarges both yourself and the Church in the Lord. Now, this is not about worldly, Adamic-nature pride, but confidence and assurance in the Lord.
Let that sink in for a moment. Do you want more assurance and confidence in the Lord?
This is wonderful news! Pastor Smith says, “No wonder the devil wants to keep the body of Christ away from this blessed expression!”

About Pastor Todd Smith
