One New Man Live on Facebook with Robert Henderson | Dealing with Families during the Holidays
The holiday season is a time of great joy and celebration. While this is the case in many families, for others it can be a time of tension and conflict.
The enemy’s goal is to stir up contention and strife within families. A prime time for him to cause chaos is during the holidays, when stress and emotions are high. The Lord wants us to find our joy in Him, but Satan will attempt to steal that joy by causing disputes in our situations and families.
This can leave us with feelings of dread that tempt us to walk into gatherings with hardened hearts that do nothing but block blessings from the Lord.
We need to understand that if we want to release God’s blessings into our lives, we cannot live in contention with others.
Matthew 5 | Release a Testimony in the Courts of Heaven and Be Reconciled to Your Brother
Let’s look at Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:23-26 as our guide for mending relationships with our “brother” and receiving released blessings…
“Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.”
During the holidays, family contentions can build up. We can have negative thoughts or feelings toward others, or others can have them toward us. We can enter into a conversation with a negative mindset that sets the stage for a case against us.
From this passage in Matthew, we can see that Jesus stresses the seriousness of blocked blessings in unreconciled relationships.
We should not use a dispute as an excuse to not be giving or to justify a negative mindset. Instead, we can see that Jesus wants the dispute to be the reason we seek reconciliation.
A dispute not only brings tension in the physical realm but also brings a case against you in the spiritual realm.
Do not let the enemy deceive you that a family dispute goes unnoticed in the heavenly realm. The Lord is concerned about your heart. He wants it aligned with His will so that you can make the most impact for the Kingdom.
Pray a Prayer of Repentance | Release a Testimony in the Courts of Heaven in Your Favor
To make an impact and to reconcile with your brother, pray a prayer of repentance. Jesus’ blood is still speaking on your behalf.
Present Jesus’ work on the cross in the Courts of Heaven. The blood of Jesus covers you and is speaking on your behalf in the Courts of Heaven. His was the sacrifice that frees you from guilt. His was the sacrifice that positions you for blessings…
- The Blessing—The adversary does not have a case against you.
Declare the promise of God’s Word and surrender your life. Declaring God’s promise is your reminder and proclamation that your trust is in Him and that He stands by His Word. When you surrender, you declare His will, not yours.
- The Blessing—Surrendering carries great realms of authority in the Courts of Heaven.
Find forgiveness. It is the key to walking in freedom. It is our nature to adopt negative thoughts when we have cause for a personal offense. But this is why Jesus gave you His mind—so that He can instruct you. We are responsible to forgive, even when it seems impossible.
- The Blessing—You are able to walk in freedom without the burden of bitterness.
