Humility… A Promise of Exaltation

What is biblical humility? When we look at the Greek translation of the word humility, it means lowliness of mind. The Bible describes humility as meekness and strong, having confidence knowing who you are in Christ. What freedom and blessing comes with the Godly Strength of humility!

What does God say about humility?…

God gives us instruction of how to be humble…

  • “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.”—Philippians 2:3

Paul writes in his letter to the Philippians that there is such a deep affection for each other in love, and because of this humility, you put your self-preoccupation aside and esteem others first. This gift goes against what our flesh naturally wants. Your gift is powerful!

God will use this gift to show others the peace and joy that do not come from life circumstances, but from knowing God.

  • “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”—Luke 14:11

Jesus was the perfect example of humility. He deserved the highest seat, but took the servants place. Because you are clothed in His righteousness, your gift of humility is growing… and you will be exalted!

Humility is not…

Humility is far from an outward appearance and lowly interaction with others. Biblical humility is not about thinking others are better than you, while you have nothing to offer. God desires for you to value what you have been given through Him, and have your confidence secured in your relationship with Christ. He wants you to find freedom in this gift, recognizing you need His help, and therefore He is your authority.
