What is God’s Instruction on Health?

There are many ideologies and philosophies about what is the best way to care for our bodies. But the truth is, God Himself is our ultimate healer! Not only can He heal us from any physical sickness, but He has healed us from spiritual sickness through Yeshua’s blood!

He provides loving instruction for us to maintain good spiritual, emotional, and physical strength…

  • “If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His eyes, if you pay attention to His commands and keep all His decrees, I will not bring you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord who heals you.—Exodus 15:26 (emphasis added)

The Wisdom of God for Our Health

Obedience grabs God’s attention, and as we follow God’s instruction, we see the guidance He gives us on health. Our whole health matters to God and is connected to our relationship with Him. We see this connection in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

He wants to add wholeness to your body, nourishment mentally, spiritually, and physically, and empower you on the adventure of building His Kingdom. Our partnership with Him is ushering in the New Heaven and Earth that He promises at His return; that coming newness is the fullness of redemption, health, love, and the beauty He’s always wanted us to live and operate in.

To partner with Him in our health and His coming Kingdom, we need to know His Word and His instruction on health for an abundant life.

Keys for Following God’s Instruction on Health

  • Be informed of the scripture. To know and experience for ourselves God’s instruction, we must be willing to get to His heart through His Word.

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness…”

—2 Timothy 3:16

The breath of God is life, and the scriptures are God-breathed. Whenever you open the Word, it is important to see it as living and expect it to be active in your heart. The way to experience this more is to pray before reading, inviting the same Holy Spirit who breathed life into the Word to make it come to life within you.

  • Have a routine. I recommend designating a specific time in your day to spend with the Lord. Personally, I find first thing in the morning to be prime before my mind gets cloudy with the daily hustle.

“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

—Lamentations 3:22-23

Starting the day by giving over everything to Jesus is a good way to combat anxiety and worry, robbers of your mental and physical health. God doesn’t want us burdened with what we can’t control, weighed down with a spirit of heaviness. He’s given us a garment of praise, as it says in Isaiah 61:3. Starting your morning with Jesus is putting on afresh the praise garment you’ve been given, agreeing with Jesus that He carries the heavy parts of your life.

  • Come into agreement for the day. During your prayer and meditation time with our Healer, speak His Word over your life.

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.”

—2 Corinthians 9:8

Amos 3:3 asks the question, “Can two walk together unless they are agreed?” Agreement is the core of alignment. Our healing is the result of oneness with our Healer. As you draw near to Him through His Word, consider writing down your favorite scriptures on healing and promises He’s giving you over your life. Put them where you can see them, keeping your agreement with Jesus strong throughout your day, even when thoughts or circumstances are fighting against it.

  • Build a relationship with His instruction. As you understand God’s Word and instruction, watch Him prosper and heal you in multiple areas of your life.

“All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the Lord your God…”

—Deuteronomy 28:2

“Please receive instruction from His mouth and establish His Words in your heart.”

Job 22:22

Jesus is always after relationship with you. He is the Word made flesh, so as we become intimate with His Word and instruction, we become intimate with Him. He wants to come alive to you in all areas of your life. Be open to how He is pursuing your heart, even if it looks different or seems too good to be true. He desires to be near you because He loves you and takes delight in who He made you to be. His words are life and health to you!

My child, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.

–Proverbs 4:20-22

It is important to listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit as He guides and directs you through this journey. Do not allow pride to intrude on your walk with Him or depend on your own thoughts or emotions. What He has in store is too beautiful not to receive it fully.

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.”

—Proverbs 3:7

Pray for a release of the healing power of the blood of Yeshua! Along with prayer, think about goals Jesus may be encouraging you to set in light of His instruction on health. He always invites us to participate with Him and gives us what we need to receive the life He paid for us to live!
