God’s Covering | Understand His Witness Protection Program

Did God give you a word during the Feasts of the Lord that released healing, peace, and restoration? You need to know how to bring that word under God’s witness protection program—God’s covering—so that seed can grow and produce an abundant harvest in season.

Why You Need God’s Covering

The Word of God says that trials and tribulation come for the word’s sake and can cause you to stumble.

“And He said to them, ‘Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? The sower sows the word. And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble.’”

—Mark 4:13-17 (emphasis added)

In other words, you receive a word from the Lord, which builds your testimony of His truth and faithfulness, but the enemy comes for it.

The word the enemy wants to steal could be…

Whatever the word is, it is evidence that God is true. But the reality of spiritual warfare is that the enemy wants to steal it. This is why you need God’s covering… to protect you and your testimony as to His witness of truth!

The Bible Says You Are God’s Witness

“‘You are My witnesses,’ says the Lord, ‘And My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me.’”

—Isaiah 43:10

You are a chosen witness for the word God has given you! Know how to protect it.

7 Tips | Use Wisdom and Step Under God’s Covering

Anytime the Lord makes you a witness of His truth and power, you need Holy Spirit’s wisdom to know how to protect the blessing, word, and testimony.

Tip 1. Don’t instantly testify of your witness. Many times, the flesh will want to tell everyone about the word immediately. However, the Lord will often whisper words of wisdom saying, “It isn’t time to release it yet.” This is because God’s covering needs to be applied to the word you’ve received, protecting it until it is ready to manifest. Typically, this means that you speak it to only a few trusted people who can be praying along with you for God to protect the word and bring it to pass.

Tip 2. Know and believe. You need to know the word and believe it. Take, for example, the seed of a tomato plant—you might say, “I’m planting tomatoes.” However, it’s actually a seed. But you know and believe that seed will grow into a tomato over time when it is sown into fertile soil, covered, and watered. Take time to know and believe the word God has released to you, then you will taste and see that the Lord is good to His word!

Tip 3. Be a watchman over the word. As mentioned above, you want to bring the word under God’s covering, but the enemy will try to get you to nurse and rehearse, speaking against it. Ask a trusted mentor, spouse, or friend to come along beside you and gently let you know when there might be an accusation on the horizon in the spirit because of words you are speaking.

Tip 4. Speak words that bear fruit. We’re talking a lot about the words we speak, being careful to bring the word the Lord gave you under God’s covering, being a watchman over the word. Speak words that will bear fruit in the Courts of Heaven. Psalm 107:2 says, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so…” As you are a witness and watchman, take your thoughts captive and speak words that will bear fruit, not destruction. Pause before you speak and count the cost of your words.

Tip 5. Practice spiritual discipline. It takes self-control and surrendering to the Lord to hold your tongue and not speak against the word the Lord has given you. When we speak against the word (see Ephesians 4:25-32), we step out from under God’s covering of protection, and this grieves Holy Spirit because He knows the enemy is lurking to steal it.

Tip 6. Put God into remembrance of His Word. This is a daily, and at times moment-by-moment, practice. Every time the enemy starts to attack, remember the word God gave you, but also speak His Word so that you may be acquitted (see Isaiah 43:26).

Tip 7. Allow the word to do the work. Keep praying, speaking, and believing the word God has given you, and it will do the work. Trust Him above all else. Psalm 34:7 says, “The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.” The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Therefore, it is key to use wisdom when applying God’s covering to your witnessing words!
