Do Not Be: Anxious, Troubled, Worried, or Dismayed!

When times are difficult, do you struggle with anxiety or worry? Do the cares of life leave you troubled? Then join us below as we discover what the Word has to say about our worries and how YOU can overcome!

Anxious, Troubled, Worried, or Dismayed?

In life we all experience good times and bad. Highs and lows. Yet, in those trying times we do not have to succumb to negative emotions.

Jesus Himself told us that we would have troubles, and the Word tells us repeatedly that such things will come… but God also gives us a way through. His Word acts not only as a reminder that there will be hard times, but that He is with us. That we have choices…

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”—John 16:33

“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;”—Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4

“…weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”—Psalm 30:5

No hard time is forever. There are seasons for everything. Yet beyond even this, it is important for us to realize that how we experience the hard times—how we press through—is largely up to us. It is a choice, just as John 14:27 says… “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

This Scripture says, “LET not your heart be troubled…” Let. It is a choice. We can choose to focus on God or on our circumstances.

Remember when Peter went out to Jesus on the water. When Peter focused on Jesus, when he utilized his faith and chose not to focus on the storm—the circumstances—he was able to walk on the water. It was only when he began to look at the negative—the storm and circumstances around him—that he began to sink and Jesus had to rescue him.

We can walk ON the waters of trouble and circumstance, rising above as we keep our eyes on God and those things which are positive. Or we can focus on the troubles, the circumstances, the negatives, and sink to a place where only God can rescue us. It is a choice. And the best way to make the wise choice is to focus on God, His Word, and the wonderful things that He has, is, and will do again!

Scriptures to Help You Rise Above Troubles:

When we struggle with anything in life, it can be hard to know where to turn. Yet, one place we can always turn, no matter how dire things may feel—or how far we have drifted—is God. We can pray, we can seek the Lord, and we can meditate on His Word…

We can renew ourselves through His Word, praying forth not merely our words, but His mighty Word! Because the Word is alive today, and if we focus on it, even consume it, as it were… we too become alive!

It is powerful!

The Power of the Word

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”—Hebrews 4:12

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
—John 1:14

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”—Psalm 119:105

“With my whole heart I have sought You; oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.
Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes.
With my lips I have declared all the judgments of Your mouth.
I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches.
I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways.
I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.”
—Psalm 119:10-16

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”—Joshua 1:8

Keep Your Eyes on Things Above

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”—Philippians 4:8

“And Peter answered Him and said, ‘Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.’ So He said, ‘Come.’ And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.”—Matthew 14:28-29

“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.”—Colossians 3:1

“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”—Colossians 3:2

“looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”—Hebrews 12:2

No Fear or Sorrow

“Then he said to them, ‘Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.’”
—Nehemiah 8:10

“Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; for the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.”—Proverbs 3:25-26

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah”—Psalm 46:1-3

While these are only a small portion of Scriptures which speak on the importance of the Word, our focus, and our God, they teach us something. They teach us that God is our strength, that in His Word we can find peace, and that there is no reason for us to fear.

If we but choose to keep our eyes on God—on things above—then springs of living water will well up inside of us!

We can live in peace and contentment in ALL circumstances not because we are great or mighty, but because our God is! Because He has paid the price for us, and by His stripes, we are healed!

“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”—John 7:38

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”—Isaiah 53:5
