Covenant Peace | Battling the Spiritual Attack of Witchcraft

Nothing pleases the enemy more than planting a false image in your mind of who he is and who God is. He desires for you to envision one who practices witchcraft as an easily identifiable old lady with warts on her nose and a broomstick in her hand.

He wants to paint a distorted picture in your mind of the Lord and create doubt that either of you has the authority to remain a victor against attacks and curses. Or worse, he wants you to minimize the act of curses and witchcraft that infiltrate our world to the point of not being able to identify or recognize them.

The Word of God speaks directly to this issue. Many people think that witchcraft is something of the past… That it is not an issue and no one is really practicing it today.

But how often does the enemy bring up the past to contort and pervert our future? Witchcraft and curses are no exception. They remain something the enemy uses to bring about confusion and chaos—the same he did in ages past.

If he can twist our perception of the past, then it lays the groundwork for his destructive schemes for our future.

The FIRST step we must take is to realize witchcraft is around us.

THEN we can begin to recognize it and battle against it with the authority that has been imparted to us through the righteousness of Christ!

We Do Not Have to Be Afraid of Curses and Witchcraft

It is crucial to understand that as a new creation who is covered by the blood of Jesus, we do not have to be afraid.

The Bible says that the enemy’s weaknesses will be exposed and we will stand in amazement that he had any power at all.

“Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit. Those who see you will gaze at you, and consider you, saying: ‘Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms…’”—Isaiah 14:15-16

God wants us to rest assured today and know that Satan’s days are numbered. After all… Satan knows this, and it is for this reason he presses in against God’s children over and over, trying to derail their confidence in Christ and their calling.

He is not after you. He knows he will never have your soul once you belong to your Creator. But he is after your blessing.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”—John 10:10

How Do I Know If Witchcraft Is Battling Against Me?

Jesus knew that words spoken out into the atmosphere are not merely noises. They have power. And once words of an ill will are spoken, the enemy latches on to them, bringing them to the surface to boil, bubble and pop—producing more energy to brew an even bigger plot.

This is why the words we speak, as well as those spoken by others, are not harmless. But we can put on our armor and be protected.

In Deuteronomy 28, the Word of God speaks about the curses that come from disobedience. God wants us to know there is an enemy lurking around, looking for legal rights to curse our prosperity, peace, and power. But the Lord also wants us to wash ourselves in His Word and instruction.

God tells us the only way to fight against these evil principalities is by putting on the whole armor of God. Any one piece we leave behind leaves us open to an attack. The Lord wants us fully protected.

The armor comes from the Word (see Ephesians 6). We cannot fight by natural means such as trying harder or taking matters into our own hands; going out on our own without being held by God’s righteous hand.

We must delight in His loving law of instruction because this brings covenant peace and protection.

“My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands; for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”—Proverbs 3:1-2, 5-6

Here are a few ways the enemy stirs up the mind, hoping to make you an ideal place for a curse to land.

A Lack of Clarity…

Sometimes it seems we cannot grasp what is going on around us. Confusion grips us and doubts enter our thoughts. Uncertainty and chaos are like a crowbar the enemy uses to open up a door into our mind.

“For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.”—1 Corinthians 14:33

Pray…

“Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for in You do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You.”—Psalm 143:8

A Desire to Quit…

The enemy loves to see us succumb to weariness and tiredness, and ultimately make a decision to quit.

Again, he is after your blessing! He knows the Lord promises “good plans” for you. And when you step into your calling, those blessings are not far away.

But if Satan can get you to give up before you get there, he blocks your blessing.

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”—James 1:2-5

Pray…

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…”—Psalm 46:1-2

Magnified Faults and the Criticizing of Others…

Satan wants us to imagine fear, defeat, and failure. If we are innocent, all he can do is plant a “what if” seed. Hasn’t he been doing this since Adam and Eve lived in perfect harmony in the Garden?

He has always been planting seeds of doubt. And all he wants is for us to bite on the fruit of doubt so that a curse can land.

“Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, ‘Has God indeed said, “You shall not eat of every tree of the garden”?’”—Genesis 3:1

Pray…

“… ‘Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!’”—Mark 9:24

“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.  But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”—Colossians 3:12-14
