How to Activate the Power of the Holy Spirit | Fall in Love with His Instruction

Many of you are seeking the fullness of God. You have watched other Believers walk with abundant power.

You’ve seen Ephesians 3:20 manifested…

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…”

…and you’ve asked, “How do I receive this power?”

Well, there are some basic principles that apply if you want to activate the power of the Holy Spirit.

In a previous article, we discussed the ways the Holy Spirit works in the lives of Believers. Click HERE to read.

To be clear, the Holy Spirit is not limited to the 7 operations mentioned in this article. There are countless ways the power of the Holy Spirit works. The list provided is a great place to start exploring His direction in your life.

After you have read the What is the Holy Spirit’s Work in a Believer’s Life?, consider the 5 questions below.

5 Questions to Consider…

As you dive into these questions, understand that they are designed to help you recognize and acknowledge the areas in your life that are out of alignment. Through prayer, repentance, and realignment, you are positioned to receive the power of the Holy Spirit.

1. Do you hear the Holy Spirit’s voice? If so, do you follow it?

There are times you need to retreat, and still your mind to hear His voice. It is good to wake up and begin your day in prayer, asking the Spirit to make His voice louder than any other that comes your way. Then you must choose to follow, honor, and glorify Him.

2. Are you grieving the Holy Spirit?

The Bible says that corrupt words, gossip, bitterness, anger, and evil speaking grieves the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:29-30). Be honest with yourself and God about the type of seed that is released from your mouth. It will produce fruit; however, the fruit might end up making you and others spiritually sick.

3. Are you lying to Him?

In Acts 5:3-4 Peter called out Ananias for lying to the Holy Spirit. Ananias wanted to appear sacrificial by giving all he had to the Church. But he lied. He justified holding back part of his money for himself and his wife. When you know the truth in your heart, and you justify going against it, or manipulate the situation to appear a certain way, you are lying to the Spirit. Therefore, take your thoughts captive and make them obedient so that the devil does not get a foothold in your life.

4. Are you yielding to His counsel?

The Bible says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10) and that God’s people perish for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). You can possess wisdom and knowledge and not follow it. This does not produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Instead it blocks your faith from growing. Therefore, you must yield to His counsel if you want to walk in the fullness of your salvation.

5. Do you know His promises?

The Holy Spirit reminds you of God’s promises. Reminding implies that you put something to memory already. If you have not consumed, meditated, and prayed the covenant promises of God, start there. Those promises are to be written in your heart and mind. The Holy Spirit places them in front of you like road signs when the enemy wants to distract you from your purpose.

His voice will empower you to put God’s plan into action. God’s plan is confirmed in the Word. The Holy Spirit will guide you into action.

Shavuot | A Time to Receive Instruction

God is doing a new thing. There are deserts in our lives that He wants to make green. In order to do that, we must have a thirst for the new wine He is preparing to pour. We must fall in love with His instruction.

We want all that God has for us. However, many are not willing to receive the instruction that equips them to hold the new revelation.

Shavuot, or Pentecost, marks the end of the 50 days after Passover (click HERE for more, and discover the connection between Shavuot and Pentecost). At Passover, the Lord reset our clocks, allowing us to reclaim what was stolen.

As we count down the days to Shavuot, He is preparing us to do something with what was reclaimed. There are instructions for how He wants to move into new levels and do this “new thing.”

Shavuot marks the time when the Lord gave instruction to His people at Mount Sinai. It was also when the power of the Holy Spirit came, who is our Helper and Guide, so that we stay aligned with God in our Kingdom purposes.

  • “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”—Acts 2:1-4 (emphasis added)

A violent wind?

Tongues of fire?

Filled with the Holy Spirit?

No doubt the Holy Spirit’s release was powerful! Are you ready to receive it?

Position Yourself to Receive the New Power of the Holy Spirit

So, how do you position yourself to receive new instruction and power of the Holy Spirit? Here are 3 simple steps

1. After considering the questions above, identify the areas in your life that need repentance.

God wants to clear out the old and prepare for the new. Repentance cleanses you, preparing you to move into new levels of faith.

The Holy Spirit’s fire must render impurities from your heart. The Holy Spirit wants to consume you completely. Therefore, repentance is necessary to make room for more of Him.

Surrender it all to Him. Repent of unbelief, doubt, and false teachings that have previously been operating in your life.

2. Thirst for more of Him.

There must be a thirst for His instruction in your life to be infilled with the Spirit. He doesn’t want just part of you. He wants all of you. Come into agreement with God’s Word so that you who believe in Yeshua will receive rivers of living water that will turn the deserted areas of your soul into lush pastures.

“…Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ By this He meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive…”—John 7:37-39

3. Ask in faith!

Have you asked the Spirit to come upon you and fill you? It may seem like there is an obvious answer to this question, but the fact is, many do not ask and therefore do not receive (James 4:2).

God wants to hold nothing back from you. However, He gives to those who will understand the purpose of the gift. It is then His name will be glorified.

Prepare for an Outpouring!

It is time to prepare your heart for something new as Shavuot approaches. The Holy Spirit is going to carve out new springs, rivers, and roads in the wastelands.

Are you ready to receive the new thing?

Let us not forget what was reclaimed at Passover. God is ready to move us into new levels. Come receive fresh oil and new wine, and the Lord will open the streams in the wastelands of your life!
