Why Does Purchasing from Israel Matter?

The Word of God says that when we bless Israel, we will in turn be blessed. If God gave us no other reason why we should bless Israel, surely this would be enough, but He gives us many more reasons… ranging from prophesy to His setting His Name upon Jerusalem!

But what does it mean to bless Israel? How can we do this? And why does purchasing from Israel matter? 

The Importance of Blessing Israel…

Before we can decide if we will bless Israel, or even how, we need to understand what God says about and desires for Israel… 

Of all the cities and countries in existence today, Jerusalem and Israel have the unique distinction of mention in God’s Word. From Exodus to Revelation, we find mention of the Promised Land, Israel, and Jerusalem. And, in the book of Genesis, we even read about God’s plan for the creation of Israel as He renamed Jacob, saying that Jacob’s name was to become Israel (Genesis 32:28).

Yet, with Israel being so important in God’s Word, why is there so much conflict?

God has written His Name upon Jerusalem. He has given us prophecy after prophecy, not only regarding Jerusalem and His return to that Holy City, but also many regarding the restoration and role of Israel in the end-times.

The enemy wants to pervert not only the land, but the people and plans of the Lord that relate to it… and as a result, there is a spiritual battle raging. Yet, we need not be afraid. God’s plans will be made manifest. The question is, will we, as Believers, not only realize the importance of His plans, but also answer the call He has laid before us? Will we do our part to bless Israel and her people?

A few of the reasons we should include:

  • The decision of God to make Israel a Promised Land for His children
  • God placing His Name upon Jerusalem
  • God choosing Jerusalem for each of His Temples—not counting our being Temples of the Lord
  • Scripture saying that we are to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and find peace through it
  • Scripture saying that God will bless those who bless them; the children to whom God gave Israel
  • Prophesies regarding the restoration of Israel
  • God’s plan to return to Jerusalem at the end times
  • God’s plans for Jerusalem and all of Israel in the end times
  • God’s plan for a thousand-year reign in New Jerusalem after the end times 
  • AND MUCH MORE!

Not only are we blessed when we bless Israel and pray for the peace of Jerusalem, but we fulfill biblical prophecy! We come into agreement that all God has promised and said will come to pass, declaring Him Lord through our actions! 

But what does blessing Israel look like? How can we make a difference?

How to Bless Israel

There are many ways we can bless Israel. And each is uniquely important!

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:

‘May they prosper who love you.

Peace be within your walls,

prosperity within your palaces.’

For the sake of my brethren and companions,

I will now say, ‘Peace be within you.’”

—Psalm 122:6-8

A few of the ways that people can bless Israel are through:

  • Prayer
  • Donations
  • Teaching others the truth about Israel
  • Planting olive trees
  • Purchasing products from Israel

God loves it when we do any of these… and they all bless Israel. But why should we purchase products from Israel? How is that a blessing when we could use that same money to donate to any number of people or causes in Israel?

Donating is obviously wonderful and helpful because those in need are able to have their needs met. But while purchasing products from Israel does not replace the purpose and need for donations, the difference it makes is unique…

Whether it is a result of destructive rockets and balloon/kite bombs, or through pandemics, sickness, or the like, the economy of families and the nation of Israel know many trials. A balloon or kite bomb can burn up a crop. Pandemics and sickness can destroy tourism. A single rocket can demolish a long standing business or family home…

In essence, many of those who need help would normally be able to provide for themselves. Many would prefer to work, but circumstances can make this difficult to impossible.

The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic shut down nearly the entire nation of Israel for months on end. In 2020 alone, the entire nation experienced 139 days of complete and total lockdown, which has and still continued well into 2021. Trades normally supported by tourism—olive wood crafters, vendors, artisans, craftsmen, chefs, etc.—were without a way to sell their goods or even feed their families! Almost all of these people need work and much prefer that over strangers or the government feeding their families… but how can they support themselves and their families without work? Without people in their nation to buy the physical products of the skills God gave them.
