Your Identity. Your Strengths. Your Purpose

From the Desk of Curt Landry…

What does it mean that you are created in Christ for good works, which were prepared for you beforehand (Ephesians 2:10)?

Maybe you were taught to understand your weaknesses so that you can strengthen them. But I want to challenge you to think differently.

Instead of focusing on your weaknesses, focus on your identity in Christ and the strengths He gave you.

Knowing your identity and identifying your God-given talents reveals your purpose.

God Created You with Great Detail and a Great Opportunity

You are God’s creation. He finely crafted you, paying close attention to every detail. There is no mistake; you were created for a good work that God had in mind before time began.

There is a specific purpose He has with you in mind to do it. This means that you, as His workmanship and creation, have a unique opportunity.

You might ask…

  • What does His workmanship look like?
  • How do I apply it to my life?
  • What changes do I need to make?
  • How do I access the Holy Spirit for this good-work transformation?

3 Principles to Help You Prosper in Your Identity and Purpose…

1. Walk in the fruit of the Spirit.

The more you walk in the fruit of the Spirit, the sooner you will find the work that has been prepared for you beforehand.

It is impossible to find your purpose when you walk in the flesh. The flesh is tied to your counterfeit identity, the Adamic nature described in Galatians 5:19-21:

  • “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

The fruits of the Spirit and your purpose are connected. You cannot have one without the other. The Spirit is evident. It produces love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

2. Decide daily to cancel your counterfeit identity.

The counterfeit self is something we can all fall into agreement with. When we repent and choose to walk in the Spirit to answer our call, we cancel the false identity.

However, this requires discipline and a desire to change. Each time we choose to align with our identity in Yeshua, we take a step in the right direction, living our purpose.

3. Sow a seed in faith.

We cannot expect God to act if we are not willing to step out in faith. It is impossible to please Him without it. And it is impossible to be transformed if you have no testimony. Therefore, acting in faith prospers your purpose.

When you sow a seed in faith, you activate the transformation of walking by the Spirit, and God begins forming your testimony for His Kingdom.

Your Transformation

Your transformation is linked to the daily discipline of walking in the fruits of the Spirit and the power of the blood covenant in the One New Man, which is found in Yeshua.

  • “…having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross…”—Ephesians 2:15-16

The works of the flesh were abolished in His flesh through the cross. The fruit is peace, love, and reconciliation—all parts of the fruits of the Spirit.

Rebirth. Rest. Redemption. Reconciliation.

These blessings were purchased for you through God’s covenant act at the cross. You have access to the Father and are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit!

  • “For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father… in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”—Ephesians 2:18, 22

This means when we dwell with the Father, we become sons and daughters—one family. We find our identity, inheritance, and purpose.

The message of the One New Man is not just about Jews and Gentiles coming together. It is also about accessing what our Father…

  • Has for us
  • Created for us
  • Designed for us

It is about being His workmanship and carrying out His Kingdom purposes.

It is about coming to His table because it is your table.

Troubling Times Will Come. Will They Make You Bitter or Better?

Friends, when a season of pressure and pain comes, it is a tremendous opportunity to become better instead of bitter.

The key to finding your better self is understanding the gift of Messiah is in you… this is your hope.

You are reconciled to Him, and He dwells within you. The fruit of this indwelling is…

  • Love
  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Longsuffering
  • Kindness
  • Goodness
  • Faithfulness
  • Gentleness
  • Self-control

And when the pressure is on during troubling times, these fruits will be magnified. They are simply a byproduct of His presence in your life.

The Hebrew year 5781 is quickly approaching. And I believe it will be a time to inspect the foundation of our lives.

You Have a Choice.

You can align with covenant restoration, which reveals the power and unity of the One New Man. This mystery unlocks protection and provision. This covenant unity releases the Holy Spirit in you to do the work of transformation necessary in this next season.

You Are a New Creation.

But if you align with your counterfeit identity, your dreams and desires are filtered through a corrupt past—your old self.

Therefore, decide today to claim your identity in Christ, releasing the potential of your predestined strengths that take you into your Kingdom purpose.

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”—Ephesians 3:20

The indwelling of His Spirit is Christ in you!
