God’s Promise of—Strength

Do you feel as if you are lacking strength? Then join us below as we discover God’s promise of strength and how YOU can come into agreement with it!

Promises of the Word:

From Genesis to Revelation God’s promises are written. Many of them we know—at least in part. However, by examining the Word, we discover that they are more numerous and wonderful than we could ever imagine!

“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”—Numbers 23:19

“In Jesus we hear a resounding ‘yes’ to all of God’s many promises. This is the reason we say ‘Amen’ to and through Jesus when giving glory to God.”—2 Corinthians 1:20 (VOICE)

Every promise of God is sure, and through Him we have a right to access those promises. However, to do so we first need to know what His promises are…

The Strength of God:

One of the most beautiful promises God gives us, for both good and bad times, is strength. Not strength as we might have in the world or through ourselves, but a divine, God given strength which works in perfect unison with other blessings and promises of God—such as, peace, guidance, patience, etc.

Yet, where in the Word can we learn more about this promised strength? Where does the Word say that strength is something we can—when we accept it and create a place for it to rest—expect out of the goodness and love of God?

Strength, strengthen, and strengthened are mentioned over 300 times in the New King James Version of the Word. Some of these speak of the strength of men, the enemy, and so forth. But a great number are speaking of the strength of God and how He gives strength to His people.

Take Psalm 29:11, “The Lord will give strength to His people…” It is not a question. It is a statement, a promise if you will, that God will give strength to those who believe in Him… who follow Him and are HIS PEOPLE.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”—Psalm 46:1

It is through God’s love that He gives us the promise of strength. Yet, sadly, it is often only during times of trouble that we let this particular promise of God rest upon us. Yes, it is in those times where we usually cannot walk without His promise of strength, but there is no reason we cannot accept it daily. There is no limit to God’s strength, nor His love in pouring it out upon us… the only limit is how much of His strength we are willing to receive.

“But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear. Also I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!”—2 Timothy 4:17-18

One of the most amazing things about God’s promise of strength, and that strength working in us, is that it does not just help us through the hard times. It gives us the strength to preach and teach His Word fully! Yes, His strength helps us combat the enemy, go through the dry seasons, the valleys of life… but it is also a tool which, when combined with God’s promises of Godly courage, boldness, and more, can cause us to be able to fulfill God’s Kingdom purpose on earth!

We were made to love God, as He loves us, and through that, it is important that we make disciples of all nations. While our individual calls and purposes vary, this is a consistent aspect for all of us. However, to fulfill it, to make disciples as we ought, we need the strength of God. This need, combined with the trials God knows we will face, all comprise His desire to give us His strength…

Because it is a desire. God desires us to prosper. To be blessed and in turn be a blessing. And strength—God’s perfect strength—is key in all He has for us!

“But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.”—2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NIV)

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”—Philippians 4:13

“He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength.”—Isaiah 40:29

“I will love You, O Lord, my strength.”—Psalm 18:1

“The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; my father’s God, and I will exalt Him.”—Exodus 15:2

Accepting God’s Promises:

No matter which promise of God we need, it is important that we not only believe, but accept the promise. Not because His promises will somehow be broken forever if we fail to properly believe or receive them, but because God does nothing against our will; because God created each promise intentionally, knowing we would need them.

For example, let us look at God’s promise of peace. To not succumb to the cares of the world, to thrive and prosper in all we do, it is important that we accept this promise. Yet, that promise needs to be activated in two ways. One, by asking God to grant us His promise—standing on Scripture and our faith. Two, by creating a place for peace to dwell—not turning from God, His ways, or allowing our anxieties, cares, and fears to stand in His way.

Simply put, to activate God’s promises we need to accept them and give them a place to reside.

This need to give God permission and create a place for His promises to dwell comes from His love for us. God loves us enough to not force us to accept Him or His ways, and as a result, He does not always linger where He is not welcomed—though He always is there for us.

Take a body of Believers from any denomination. God loves His Church, but for them to receive the fullness of what God has, they need to activate it by giving God permission AND a place to dwell. Yes, God will continue to allow the angels of those attending to go wherever His people go, even if it is to a place where lies, deceit, and an unholy atmosphere have been allowed… but God’s Spirit is unlikely to visit there. After all, is not Holy Spirit more likely to move when the Church is in unity and welcoming His presence?

We have to open our hearts. We have to desire the promises of God if they are to flourish. Yes, God will not leave us or forsake us, even if we forsake Him… but do we honestly expect Him to move in power if we say, “no”? Do we not want to allow all God has for us by opening our hearts, by changing our habits and patterns to create an atmosphere for Him, and by seeking God and His Kingdom first?

If we are willing to seek God, He will come. He will answer. And all of His promises will be ready to rest and flow through us!
