Get Your House in Order

We are the Temple of the Lord. As such, our ‘house’—God’s Temple—needs to be in order. But what does that mean for us?

Join us as we discover the beauty of being God’s Temple and the need to keep it holy…

We Are God’s Temple

We, as Believers, have heard that we are the Temple of God. But do we live like it?

This is not the easiest question to answer if we examine ourselves closely. After all, no one but our God is perfect. We all make mistakes. And so, we require the Blood of Yeshua daily to cleanse and renew His Temple… us. Yet, while this daily cleansing allows us to continually keep His Temple open, sometimes we need to do a deeper cleaning… not just daily destruction of sin, but a removal of the root. So that we are not making the same errors over and over; or, in other words, changing our character and behavior so we can emulate God and be the best version of ourselves that we can be.

“Have you forgotten that your body is now the sacred temple of the Spirit of Holiness, who lives in you? You don’t belong to yourself any longer, for the gift of God, the Holy Spirit, lives inside your sanctuary. You were God’s expensive purchase, paid for with tears of blood, so by all means, then, use your body to bring glory to God!”

—1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (TPT)

Now, no one is going to be able to remove all sin, because only God is perfect… but that does not mean that we are not meant to be proactive. We can, with the help of our Great God, not only discover the sin, but change our habits and patterns so it can no longer be a part of our lives. Through doing this, we are able to get God’s Temple—‘our house’—in order!

“Don’t you realize that together you have become God’s inner sanctuary and that the Spirit of God makes his permanent home in you? Now, if someone desecrates God’s inner sanctuary, God will desecrate him, for God’s inner sanctuary is holy, and that is exactly who you are.”

—1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (TPT)

Changing our habits and patterns, our behavior, may sound difficult. But with God, it does not have to be. He is more than willing to take on our burdens and direct us where we are meant to go…

To our wonderful God, we are not only a loved people… we are the Lord’s holy inner sanctuary!

How Do We Get Our House in Order?

In the days before Passover, many Jewish and Gentile Believers yearly go through their houses and remove everything that has yeast. In fact, the majority even clean every area of their home that could have come in contact with yeast—while this extends to likely every room of the home, the kitchen is the main focus.

This cleaning is a physical representation of getting rid of the yeast—or sin—that has entered in during the last year…

Certainly, cleaning our kitchen will not remove sin from our lives. And those who do this yearly cleansing typically realize this…

But no matter if we choose to remove the physical yeast from our homes or not—it is up to each of us—the real purpose of this behavior is meant to remind us of how the residue of sin will show itself each year. Yet, more than that, it shows us how the sin can be removed…

By repenting and cleansing ourselves in the Blood of Yeshua, by returning to God and changing our behavior… we become like new! We are—like a mirror once covered in grime, but now washed clean—able to reflect the Creator who lives in us! We are able to amplify the Light! We are able to be true temples of God!

But, unlike the cleaning that happens right before Passover, we can choose to get our house in order at any moment! We can choose to repent, apply the Blood, return to God… and to change. So that the grime need not return again.

So how do we change? How do we get our house in order?

This can vary from person to person and situation to situation… even the season of time we are in can affect this. But there are a few keys that almost always apply!

We need to:

  • Pray | Ask God to reveal those areas where things need to be cleaned or changed.
  • Repent and Return | Ask for forgiveness, get covered in the Blood, return to God’s path.
  • Create Goals | One way to help clean, change, and answer our call is to create goals… praying and seeking God’s revelation, writing down both the goal(s) and how to get there, and setting achievable timelines.
    • These goals do not have to be limited to big things. We can even create goals to improve our character or relationship with God—be that removing a distraction, setting aside more time for Him, etc. Remember, where God leads, He provides; we do the little thing and He does the big thing!
  • Spend Quality Time | We need to spend quality time with God! And this is not limited to our time spent in intercessory prayer or combing the Word.… every minute of our day has the potential for quality time spent with the Lord.
    • We can include God in so many things! We can talk to Him about anything. In our minds or aloud, He is always listening. He always cares.

We can listen to Him about anything too. Let God direct you in what you wear one morning. Talk to Him while you are doing the dishes. Discuss a movie with Him. We do not have to limit the where or why we are interacting with God! He LOVES to spend time with us!

There are many other ways and things that can help us ‘get our house in order,’ yet, at the center of them all is keeping God always in our hearts and minds. Setting Him first. Yes, some issues like word curses, generational curses, etc., may require going into the Courts of Heaven or take other spiritually legal measures… yet, even then, it is ultimately God who is freeing us. It is He who deserves ALL of the GLORY!

We need to lean into Him. And be intentional about it. We need to realize and accept that we are God’s Temple. We are meant to honor and glorify Him. Yet, there is nothing to be intimidated by. Nothing to fear. God loves us and desires relationship with us. To dwell with Him! And when we put Him first, things move into place. Doing this causes us to be intentional, and from that, we are able to get our house in order. We are able to prepare God’s Temple.
