Shalom, welcome back to Ancient Principles, Kingdom Authority. We’re talking about the subject of spiritual warfare. I hope this is helping you. If you are just joining, you can go back to the archived podcast and listen as they build upon each other…

So I’m going to unpack and define habitual sin and generational curses. Many people have heard of these terms, but there is still confusion surrounding them. So I will break it down today.

Habitual Sin

Habitual sin is continuing to sin, even after you have had a nudge from the Holy Spirit to stop. And coming into agreement with a repeating act of the sin creates a habit that seems impossible to break. That’s a habitual sin.

There’s a need to be changed to receive freedom and transformation, yet habitual sin feels as though you can’t make the change. Change can feel like an impossibility. This indicates a habitual sin.

Is Freedom from Habitual Sin Possible?

Do we have the ability to receive freedom from habitual sin? And the answer is absolutely yes! I will try to give you some instructions on how to apply spiritual warfare principles to help break those habits and patterns.

For a non-Believer…

  • Satan will use deception to stay hidden, to hide the sin so that they will not come to the truth that it really is sin. And so, you’ll see people with really bad behavior who are not saved and become callous to it. There’s absolutely no conviction.

For a Believer…

  • And the same thing can happen to Believers, but Satan knows the truth is in them. Therefore, his tactic is to distract them from using the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, to cut down his lies.

The Lies Satan Tells Us…

  • And one of his lies is, “You’re never going to beat this habitual sin. Your parents had it, your sister had it, your uncle had it,” whatever it may be. “And they didn’t break through, and they were Christians, and you won’t break through either.”

Well, that’s a lie because the Lord says you can overcome all things through Christ’s strength. So you’re now in a spiritual battle because you have been grafted into the winning side. The key to overcoming habitual sin is to know how to change your mindset.

Move from a fixed mindset, being consumed with doubt, fear, and unbelief, into a faith mindset. So that’s a choice. And so, let’s choose today to say, “Listen, I am going to study and investigate more.” And I’ve done quite a bit of teaching on having that faith mindset, where you know Jesus died for your freedom and that you are more than a conqueror through Him. And it’s about moving from a victim mentality to a victor mentality.

Battling from a Place of True Identity

In the first podcast on spiritual warfare in Ancient Principles, Kingdom Authority, I had you look at your identity as a child of God and a co-heir in Yeshua. And this is the belt of truth you put on when battling against habitual sin. Your identity is in the forgiven and the victor and not the victim. I want you to go back and review that first podcast because you must understand we can overcome through identity.

God Sets You Up for Victory

1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

And so, this is a way you can go into the courts, “Lord, we put on the full armor of God. We come into your mercy courts, and you say, ‘Father God, over my life, let it be recorded today in the Courts of Heaven with my habitual sin. Let it be recorded that I decree 1 Corinthians 10:13, that in my life,’ and put your name in there and say, ‘no temptation has overtaken me except such as common to man. Father God, but God is faithful.’ Say, ‘Lord, You’re faithful. You will not allow me to be tempted beyond what I am able to bear. But with the temptation also, Lord, You make a way to escape that I may be able to bear. And that way of escape is bringing that habitual sin into the Courts of Heaven on a daily basis and coming out of agreement with it.”

It says in Hebrews 10:12-14, “But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”

Speak out loud in the mercy court… “So Father God, I receive the perfection and the sanctification of the blood of Jesus. Your Word says there is therefore no condemnation. I choose not to be condemned. Lord, I choose not to receive condemnation. Convictions are from the Holy Spirit, condemnations are from the devil, and it’s in my soul. And Your Word says there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus who do not walk according to the flesh.”

Walk in the Spirit

But here’s the key, you must walk according to the Spirit. You must understand that the warfare you’re in is spiritual warfare, not flesh warfare. And the last scripture I want to give you is John 8:31-32: “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’”

Generational Curses

I want to talk to you about generational curses. There are a number of generational curses.

Divorce

You will see generational curses in families through things such as divorce. That needs to be stood against. Christie and me, on both sides of our family, there was divorce. And when we got married, we made a decision to say, “This will never become a subject that we’re going to discuss.” And I can tell you, in over 44 years, we have not discussed it. I’m not saying we’ve never had problems or challenges, but we have never entertained that it was an option.

  • One of the Keys…

When you go into the courts and you cut off that spirit of divorce, you need to understand that you’re coming out of agreement with it.

Other Types of Generational Curses

  • Dysfunctional relationships are a type of generational curse.
  • Cancers, such as breast cancer, and chronic illnesses are generational curses.
  • Poverty, the spirit of poverty, and the orphan spirit are types of generational curses.
  • Physical, sexual, and emotional abuse are generational curses.
  • Addictions are a generational curse.
  • Emotional struggles such as oppression and depression are generational curses.
  • Miscarriages and infertility are types of generational curses.

If these describe you, you need to go into the courts and break that assignment by saying, “As for me, in this temple, in this house, this stops right now. We’re not going down this road.”

Why Do Bad Things Happen?

You might ask, “Why do bad things continue to happen?” Sometimes it is because we lose hope or we have seeds of bitterness that come when we don’t get our prayer answered quickly. Anger, rebellion, and unforgiveness reproduce after sin in the garden and not the seeds of the covenant of Christ.

And we need to know that the Word says now, “To Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, ‘And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,’ who is Christ.” So it’s singular. “And this I say, that the law which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect, for if the inheritance is of the law and it is no longer of promise, but God gave it to Abraham by promise.”—Galatians 3:16- 18.

The Words We Speak Matter

So the mouth speaks from an overflow of the heart. Therefore, when the words such as, “This is the way my family has dealt with or thought about,” whatever that subject may be, let’s say divorce, are spoken out with a hard posture that is angry or bitter, it is an indication that there is a generational curse.

“We’ve always had poverty.” “We’ve always been a family with lack.” Or, “We’ve always had emotional struggles.” Whatever that is, this is a root of a generational curse.

Your Rights as a Believer

As a Believer…

  • You have a right to be set free by the blood of Jesus.
  • You have a right to be healed, and you have a right to have provision from the Lord.
  • You have a right to take authority over it.
  • You have a right to enter into the Courts of Heaven.
  • You have a right to approach the Righteous Judge who sits at the right hand of the throne as a Just Judge and bring your case.
  • You have a right to call on the blood of Jesus and the One who sits at the right hand of the Father.

Because of these covenant rights, you can pray, repent, seek forgiveness, and trust in Jesus, in the blood. Even though you may not be the source of the curse, you can cancel the curse and the curse’s right and influence your atmosphere and family. Reverse the curse by the blood of Jesus and do that in the Courts of Heaven.

The Fruit of a Broken Curse

The fruit of breaking curses is being confident in your identity and comfortable around others. You may start thinking differently because you have placed Jesus as ruler over your heart. And as a result, you will have an authentic, genuine fellowship and you’ll see doors of opportunity that the Lord will open before you. You’ll be able to walk through them with abundant grace and peace because you have been set free from habitual sin and generational curses.

In Conclusion

The verse for generational curses and walking in the light…

I want to close with this, Exodus 34:6-7.

  • “And the Lord passed before him and proclaim, ‘The Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving inequities and transgression and sin by no means clearing the guilty. Visiting the inequities of the fathers upon the children and the children to the third and the fourth generation.”

Prayer

“The Word says, Father, that if we walk in the light, as He is the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ, the Son, cleanses us from all sins, all generational curses and iniquitous structures.

“If we say that we have no sin, we’ve deceived ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from our sins. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us, for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.’ Abraham’s blessings might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, and we might receive the promise of the Spirit of faith. For we were once in darkness but now are in the light of the Lord. We walk as children of light for the fruit of the Spirit and all goodness, righteousness, and truth. Finding out what is acceptable to the Lord and having no fellowship with unfruitful works of darkness.

“Father God, we thank You and give You praise. Lord, You are setting us free. Let it be recorded this day, on this podcast, Ancient Principles, Kingdom Authority, that, Father God, we are set free. Let it be recorded in the courts by the blood of Jesus. And we repent of all generational curses, known and unknown, and habitual sin, known and really all known. And Lord, we repent and ask You to give us strength to overcome all temptation. And we shall be overcomers by the strength of the joy of the Lord, who is our strength.”

God bless you and Shalom.
