The Fire of New Identity: Shavuot 2018 a Review

Shavuot is a time of when we celebrate the gift of the Torah, or instruction. Shavuot marks the end of the 50 days following Passover. It was at this time when the Lord gave instruction to His people at Mount Sinai and made them their own nation. Shavuot is a time of celebrating the provisions given to us by God.

My New Identity in Christ

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”—2 Corinthians 5:17

As Believers, we are made new in Christ and are instructed to renew our minds by the washing of the Word. This act of obedience is not to give us new ideas, but it is more about washing away old thoughts that are contrary to God’s way so that the Spirit can reveal the truth to you.

Many of us believe lies that have been passed down in our family for generations; we are trapped by family soul ties that have plagued us for years. Shavuot is a time to lay those lies before God so that the fire of the Holy Spirit can consume them.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”—Romans 12:2

After the purifying flame of Shavuot is released, the Holy Spirit reveals spiritual gifts to you so that you can move forward and determine what is right and pure from Heaven, and also to cut off the lies from your past.

Shavuot was an invitation from God to escape the danger of false beliefs and to find the true peace of God in who He says you are.

A Movement of New Identity

With recent events such as the United States embassy’s move to Jerusalem, and the recent Royal Wedding in England, the evidence of realignment of nations and races is apparent.

Bishop Michael Curry stated this at the Royal Wedding…

Someone once said that Jesus began the most revolutionary movement in human history. A movement grounded in the unconditional love of God for the world – and a movement mandating people to live that love, and in so doing to change not only their lives but the very life of the world itself. I’m talking about power. Real power. Power to change the world.”

God is releasing His love in the form of fire to consume shame, guilt, doubt, and unbelief. Faith won’t you set you free from doubt, love does. Faith works through love.

“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.”—Galatians 5:6

Biblical Instruction

Why can following directions oftentimes be so difficult? We need to understand that when we have the fire of the Holy Spirit within us, He instructs us. Not only do we get to put on a new identity, but He enables and equips us for our calling.

But… sometimes there is frustration and delay. Do you ever get frustrated with your gift because you know its there, but there is no victory?

To be victorious, you need more fire. God wants you to rely on Him for it all so that He can fire up the kiln and mold you into His masterpiece for His good work, for that higher-level calling.

A Higher Calling in This Season

Whatever it takes, between now and the return of Messiah, how will you obey?

Want more Fire?…

  • Give a gift of thanks. This gift is not necessarily a giving of tithes and alms, it a spiritual gift.
  • Decree your identity. When you decree who you are in Christ, it is a declaration of belief in the Word of God.
  • Rejoice where He has placed you. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”—1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

He will use your unique call in mighty ways if you follow His will and obey.

  • Pray that He fills you with fire. The fire will reveal prophetic words of confirmation to your calling.

When you operate in the new gifts that were released at Shavuot, it will change the way you see yourself, and will change how others interact with and see you.

The fire of God will activate your gifts and take them to a level of prospering. Understand those gifts and feed on compassion, like Jesus, as He met people with compassion and love, not as a roadblock. If you see a need, be a part of the solution.

Fire births commitment. Just as Jesus said in the Garden of Gethsemane, “…not My will, but Yours, be done” (Luke 22:42).

Fire will only burn with commitment. It will make you gentle, patient, and exhibit self-control. It will manifest as humility.

Purpose of Spiritual Gifts

The purpose of spiritual gifts is to:

  • Reveal God’s character to others
  • Built unity and increase faith
  • To complete God’s work on earth

“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works, all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”—1 Corinthians 12:4-11

Unity is one God, one Holy Spirit, and one Messiah. When there is disunity among the brethren, it hinders all.

Without the pursuit of love, you cannot hear from the Holy Spirit to prophesy.

“Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.”—1 Corinthians 14:1-4

It is time that we pursue love and compassion above all things. It is time we become unified and quit battling evil, but focus on what is the true, right, pure, and lovely fruit God has set before us.

God will bring people to you because the love of God is like a fragrant flower. The flower then becomes the fruit.

“For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.”—2 Corinthians 2:15
