Experience More of God’s Presence during Your Daily Quiet Time

Committing to daily quiet time with the Lord transforms your faith. Starting your day in His Word aligns your mind, will, and emotions to fulfill your purpose that is written in Heaven for that day

But there is a problem. Many Believers simply go through the motions of quiet time without stepping into God’s presence. The enemy uses distractions to pull us out of a meditating mindset.

  • Have you ever started to pray, and suddenly your to-do list for the day is all you can think about?

In moments like these, take the thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. Remember that part of your inheritance is to have the mind of Christ (see 1 Corinthians 2:16). Call upon this inheritance during your daily quiet time.

Five Ways to Experience God’s Presence during Daily Quiet Time

  1. Surrender Your Thoughts during Daily Quiet Time

If you go into a quiet place to pray and thoughts are racing through your mind, bring them before God. Surrender them during prayer by praying scripture such as this…

“Father God, I recognize my mind is racing and not resting in Your presence. Right now, I ask that Your presence rests upon me, according to Zephaniah 3:17. Your Word says that You are in my midst, and You save me! My heart bursts with gladness. Your Word says that Your love quiets me. Therefore, I will sing Your praises, in Jesus’ name.”

Action Step: Pray scripture that speaks truth to your thoughts.

  1. Check Your Heart and Repent during Daily Quiet Time

If you want intimacy and to experience God’s presence during daily quiet time, begin by checking your heart.

Imagine if your spouse spoke hurtful words toward you. Then the next day, came to you, asking you to do something for them. The previous offense stands in the way of the request like a roadblock preventing a car from moving forward down the path.

Because God wants a deep covenant relationship with you, you need to remove anything that blocks the relationship from moving forward in your favor.

Many will approach the Lord, making requests and asking for peace, yet there is no repentance for their own unforgiveness.

The key to experiencing God’s presence is repentance. When you recognize sin in your life, ask Him to cleanse and renew your heart, thus making room for His transforming power.

“Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.”—1 Peter 3:7

Action Step: Get honest with God and yourself. Repent of any offenses such as doubt, unforgiveness, and fear.

7 Steps to Emotional Healing
  1. Meditate on the Word during Daily Quiet Time

In Hebrew, the word meditation means to pay attention to what the Holy Spirit reveals and to lift up the name of the Lord.

Joshua 1:8 says, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

As you “lift up” the name of the Lord, you are literally speaking and proclaiming who He is: Redeemer, the Living Water, Friend, Father, Judge, and Revelator, to name a few.

Meditating can also be described as murmuring. In the verse above, the point is to speak or murmur God’s Word throughout your day.

This is why being in the Word of God is essential. When you know it, you can decree the Word in the physical realm, and it will shift the atmosphere of the spiritual realm.

Action Step: Read a passage. Ask the Spirit to reveal how it applies to your life today. Then praise the Lord’s name for illuminating truth.

  1. Listen to Worship Music

People often think of daily quiet time as being, well… quiet. However, if we think of it as more of a time to quiet our spirit and soul in the Lord, we find a place during that time to sing and listen to worship music, again meditating on the words of the songs.

The verses below illustrate how worship was magnified by singing and dancing.

  • “speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,”—Ephesians 5:19
  • “… ‘I will declare Your name to My brethren; in the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.’”—Hebrews 2:12
  • “My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing to You, and my soul, which You have redeemed.”—Psalm 71:23
  • “I will sing of mercy and justice; to You, O Lord, I will sing praises.”—Psalm 101:1

Action Step: Choose songs to listen to during your daily quiet time. Raise your hands, sing along, and dance.

  1. Focus on His Faithfulness during Your Quiet Time

This may seem simple enough, but we can quickly forget the faithfulness of our Abba Father. As you enter your daily quiet time, thank God for the times He has come through on His promises…

  • Has He sustained you during a trial? Tell Him.
  • Has He provided for you? Tell Him.
  • Has He given you strength? Tell Him.
  • Has He comforted you? Tell Him.
  • Have you noticed the perfectly orchestrated events of your life fall together at the right time? Tell Him.

“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;”—Deuteronomy 7:9

“If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.”—2 Timothy 2:13

Action Step: Create a list of the ways God’s faithfulness has prevailed in your life. Pull the list out during your daily quiet time and talk to Him about those moments.
