Av – The Month of Mercy

“Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!” —Psalm 103:1
In Psalm 103, David lifts up praise and worship to the Lord, but he also instructs his soul, his innermost being, to come into alignment with the truth of who the Lord is and His ways.
Our souls—our minds, wills, and emotions—can either be in alignment with or out of alignment with God’s will. We get to choose, but first, we need to take an honest assessment of its condition and understand God’s mercy.
This Hebrew month—Av—is a time to see the Lord’s mercy and grace (Psalm 103:8), to understand how He is slow to anger and abounding in loving devotion to us. When we begin to see how God’s ways are good—always higher and better than ours—our souls settle, and anxieties and fears flee.
