VRP | How to Claim Your Identity in Christ and Discover Your Purpose

God created you for a purpose. As you grow closer to knowing the Lord, He will reveal His purpose for your life. The key to understanding your purpose is to seek and understand your identity in Christ.Christ prayed that God’s will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

Your purpose is to partner with Him to take dominion in whatever area He assigns to you, harness it’s potential, and continuously point others to Him through the process. In order to do that, you must first know who you are. Without this knowledge as your foundation, your purpose will never come pass.God will develop your character through the process of discovering your purpose. He will sift out the things that stand in the way so that you can claim your identity in Christ.

Through this journey, the enemy will attempt to stand in your way. This is why it is crucial to be in the Word daily, praying for God’s plans to prevail, and proclaiming your identity in Christ. When you do this consistently and have faith in the promise, the enemy’s fiery arrows are blocked.“… above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.”—Ephesians 6:16Satan’s goal is for you to be sidetracked on the path to your purpose so that God’s plans for complete restoration are delayed.

He knows his time is short. He knows who wins in the end, so all he can do is delay the fulfillment. But you have the power of the Holy Spirit to take the authority that has been imparted to you and decree and declare God’s promise over your life!

Come into agreement with God’s Word about your identity and watch as He reveals your purpose.Decide to pray to cancel the delay!“O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”—Daniel 9:19

Step 1: Start by praying that the Lord reveals your identity. God’s calling for your life will be one that furthers His Kingdom and spiritually prospers you. It will reflect your spiritual identity. As you pray, ask Him to silence the voice of sin that says, “You aren’t…” and magnify the voice of the Spirit that says, “You are a new creation.”Then ask Him to reveal how He wants to turn your trials into triumphs.“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”—Genesis 50:20

Step 2: Check out the resources below. We understand that discovering your purpose and claiming your identity in Christ is a process. That’s why we’ve developed resources for you to use during your personal time. Use them as a springboard into your study and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you while you read them so that God’s promise for your life is fulfilled.“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”—Isaiah 55:11

Step 3: Meditate on and declare your identity in Christ. One of the most powerful things you can do to cancel the delay of God’s purpose to be manifested in your life is to declare your Christ-given identity. The enemy wants you to forget that you are a co-heir with Christ. He wants you to disregard the fact that you’ve been given a robe of righteousness. When you proclaim the true aspects of your identity, it reminds the enemy he has no power of over you.“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”—Luke 10:19
