The acknowledgment of these spirits working in the life of an abuser in no way excuses their behavior. God is clear that He will rightly deal with evil in the world.“Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.”—Romans 12:19However, in the face of the storm, you need to know that you are not alone, that you can overcome this battle, and that there is protection in the presence of God. Know this, for the sake of His great name, the Lord will not forget you. He is pleased to make you His own (1 Samuel 12:22). How the Enemy Attacks in the Aftermath of the Storm of Abuse

The enemy uses lies that evoke doubt, shame, unbelief, or any number of emotions against you, even after the horrific event takes place. It is during these times you may have asked…

  • God, where were you?
  • Is all of this my fault?
  • Will I ever recover?

In order to begin the healing process, there are steps you can take today. We want to take a moment to direct your attention to the hotline number listed at the bottom of the page. If you feel that you or someone in your home is in danger, please call the hotline number for immediate help.

How to Begin Healing from Abuse

Step 1: Start by praying. Start with an honest prayer about the pain in your heart and soul. There are a number of Psalms, such as Psalm 43, that are prayers lifted up in times of trouble. We encourage you to start praying Psalms that cry out to the Lord as well as decreeing those that speak of His faithfulness, such as Psalm 30. As difficult as it is, there will come a time to pray for the violator. For healing to take place, you will need to move into a place of forgiveness. Make a choice to forgive the one who has hurt you. Ask God to remind you how you have been forgiven. We understand this is easier said than done, and this is a process that should not be walked alone. There are intercessory prayer resources below.“I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up, and have not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me. O Lord, You brought my soul up from the grave; you have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.”—Psalm 30:1-3Step 2: Check out the resources below. The fact that you are here, reading this today, reveals that you are strong and courageous. We want to provide support and encouragement during your healing process. That’s why we’ve developed resources for you to use during your personal time. Use them as a springboard into your study and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you while you read them so that you can begin healing.Step 3: Meditate on and declare God’s Word. God’s Word says that you are a child of the King. Often, this type of attack happens to those who hold a great anointing. The enemy does all he can to keep this anointing from being manifested. It is for this reason that declaring your identity in Christ is essential. Make a list of who you are in Christ and the blessings God promises to His children. Declare them daily and begin cutting off this evil assignment in your life today. Here are a few to get you started…

  • Declare Ephesians 2:6: “I am raised up with Him and seated with Him in the heavenly places!”
  • Declare 1 Peter 2:9: “I am priest and a possession of the Lord. He has called me out of the darkness and into the light. I will no longer walk in darkness!”
  • Declare 2 Timothy 1:7: “I do not have a spirit of fear, because I belong to the Lord. He has given me power, love, and self-control!”
