Make Me a Flame of Fire: The Fire of the Holy Spirit
In today’s Western Christian culture, the Holy Spirit is one aspect of God that is often not discussed. However, when it is left out of teaching we open doors to the enemy. Why? Because the Holy Spirit is the part of the triune Godhead who dwells within us and equips us for battles. When we don’t understand the power of the full armor of God we are left unprotected.
Not only does the Holy Spirit equip us but He guides us toward achieving the divine purposes that God predestined uniquely for each one of us.
Let’s uncover the Hebrew roots to the divine Fire that dwells within us!
The Holy Spirit in Hebrew is pronounced, Ruach HaKodesh. Here are some of the Holy Spirit’s characteristics mentioned in the Bible:
- Comforter/Helper—Ha-Melitz
- “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”—John 14:26
- Eternal Spirit—Ruach Olam
- “…how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”—Hebrews 9:14
- Holy Spirit of Promise—Ruach HaKodesh
- “In Him you also trusted,after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise…”—Ephesians 1:13
- Spirit of Revelation—Ruach HaChazon
- “…that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him…”—Ephesians 1:17
The Holy Spirit seizes us out of darkness and purifies us by His fire so that we can have more of God. Have you had those encounters with God where you feel His presence surrounding and consuming you? When that moment has passed, we often long for that feeling of power and peace again.
The God encounter doesn’t have to be short-lived. In fact, when we expand our expectation of the Holy Spirit, we can operate in it as a lifestyle. We need to broaden our expectation of the Holy Spirit’s fire. It’s more than revival, renewal, or a season of time.
What Does the Fire Need to Grow in Us?
When it comes to fire, it needs fuel to stay lit and to keep burning. To keep the Holy Spirit’s flame burning in you every day, He requires the fuel of God’s Word. Allow the Holy Spirit to breath God’s Word into your soul so that it aligns with the Spirit of God within you.
- “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!”—Psalm 150:6
Fire requires a balance between fuel, oxygen, and heat; this is the same for your spiritual walk. We have a responsibility to balance the elements that keep the fire going.
If you want the fire of the Holy Spirit to be lit within you and never go out, you have first to know what it’s for and how to use it.
What is the Holy Spirit for? To Guide Us?
The Holy Spirit guides us to position our souls with God’s Spirit. He instructs us in our faith walk. When we lay down our lives for God, the Holy Spirit uses His fire to purify and cleanse the old, making us into a new creation in Christ.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”—2 Corinthians 5:17
The Holy Spirit guides your desires…
“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”—Psalm 37:4
This verse is about aligning with Him, and the fire will shift your heart and give you all that it desires!

We discussed asking ourselves the following questions at the beginning of this year. Now, as we approach Shavuot, it is an excellent time to review the questions and goals again. But, before reviewing the accountability worksheet [Click Here], let’s look at the significance of reviewing the questions during the Feast of Weeks, or Shavuot.
Shavuot is celebrated as the time the Lord gave instruction to Israel on Mount Sinai. After the resurrection of Christ, Jesus promised those who believed in Him that they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit (see Acts 1:5).
“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”—Acts 2:1-4
The 120 disciples of Christ were baptized by fire on the day of Pentecost, that is Shavuot. At this time, the Holy Spirit took up residence within to guide and instruct them.

The list of practical ways the Holy Spirit guides us every day…
Ask yourself and review these questions every day from now until Shavuot. The Holy Spirit wants you to take action!
- What major goals have I completed this year so far, and what am I satisfied with?
- How can I better align with the overall purpose and the vision outlined on my accountability worksheet?
- What goal am I focusing on and how is this goal manifesting myself in my life?
- Do I need to change my strategies to reach my goals, or am I content with the rate of progress?
- Am I embracing change or resisting it? How can I be open to a greater growth and expansion?
- Have I surrounded myself with a good team to reach my goals?
- What have I discovered about myself? Whatever you don’t like give it God at Shavuot and He will burn it up.
The Lord tells us to think soberly about ourselves (see Romans 12:3). Are you taking the instruction of the Holy Spirit and applying it to this year of new beginnings?

How to Access the Holy Spirit to Grow…
When the day of Pentecost arrives, lay down what God desires for you to cut out of your life and let the Holy Spirit’s flame sear it away from your true identity. You grow in the Holy Spirit by allowing Him to cleanse you with His fire. You have to become aware that you need His instruction, then lay down what you want removed from your life at the altar so it will be burned before the Lord.
Isaiah realized his need to repent of his unclean lips (see Isaiah 6:5). There was a breath proclamation from the unclean lips, and Isaiah set it before God. Then His fire, the live coal from the altar, touched his mouth. The Seraphim said to him…
“…Behold, this has touched your lips; your iniquity is taken away and your sin purged.”—Isaiah 6:7
Whatever mountain you are in, wherever you are, if your heart and your finances are aligned with God for the restoration of souls, you will live abundantly because His fire in you is accomplishing His agenda.

We must become responsible for the harvest. The fire births responsibility and is the power of multiplication.
Make this daily decree of identity and, find a partner to help you stay accountable to your goals.
